Project management services during restoration of a school damaged by by Hurricane Juan
PLEL
provided project management services for asbestos removal, microbial
remediation and building drying to facilitate complete restoration
of a School in Nova Scotia. Significant water ingress occurred
after the building's roof membrane was destroyed by Hurricane
Juan. The water caused the delamination and collapse of several
areas of plaster walls and ceiling as well as the growth of mould.
PLEL assessed the damage and developed work procedures to safely
remediate the affected asbestos-containing plaster as well as
mould contamination. A detailed workplan outlining the distinct
phases of the entire re-construction project was developed and
presented to the School Directors and parent groups.
Assistance was provided in the selection of a qualified drying
contractor. Meausres were implemented to ensure that moisture
levels of the wooden structure were within acceptable levels.
The overall progress of the project was monitored and documented.
To confirm the effectiveness of the site restoration program,
a sampling program for airborne microbial agents was conducted
after the completion of all work. The school was then re-occupied
and a final report was prepared to detail the successful completion
of the restoration project.
