We provide infection control consulting and inspection services
to health care facilities to minimize risk to hospital occupants
during construction and renovation projects. Dust particles contaminated
with bacteria and fungi created during construction and renovation
projects have the potential for creating health risks for patients,
staff and visitors.
The Canadian Standards Association Z317.13-03 addresses building
construction or maintenance procedures to protect patients, staff
and visitors. This document identifies that during construction
related activities airborne mould spores, primarily Aspergillus,
can lead to infection in patients with suppressed immune systems.
The gram-negative bacterium, Legionella can also cause serious
infection in patients. This bacterium can be found in water environments
as well as soil and dust.
We provide services to minimize risk to hospital occupants during
and after construction activities:
-
Specification design in accordance to the CSA Z317.13-03
requirements.
-
Specific procedural documents or maintenance management documents
for conducting regular maintenance (i.e. standard practice
for accessing upper ceiling spaces).
-
Infection control monitoring during construction projects.
This includes dust level monitoring, airborne mould monitoring,
and negative pressure monitoring.
-
Water testing and monitoring during plumbing renovations,
water shut offs etc.
-
Construction isolation inspections (enclosures, negative
air, etc.).
-
Onsite consulting and/or training for hospital staff or contractors.
